Department Units
| Major
Investigation Unit (MIU) |
The
MIU (Major Investigation Unit) was
formed in the spring of 2002 as a
cooperative effort between the City
of Delafield, Village of Hartland
and Village of Chenequa Police Departments.
The purpose of this unit's formation
is to provide a resource member departments
could utilize in case of a significant
investigation which could otherwise
overwhelm their individual abilities
to conduct it. Originally, each department
was to contribute to a shared joint
budget and four officers who would
develop skills in four different areas:
investigator, evidence technician,
accident reconstruction and photography.
Delafield added two additional members
in 2002, with plans to add other specialists
in the future. Since its inception,
it has been used successfully in a
large burglary, several suspicious
sudden death investigations and a
homicide.
In
mid 2002 a trailer was purchased with
funds from a grant through the Office
of Justice Assistance. This trailer,
which is pictured above, is used at
crime scenes to provide equipment
necessary at the scene. The trailer
can also be used as a "command
post" at the scene.

Critical
Incident Team (CIT)

Five members of this
agency are assigned to the Lake Area
Critical Incident Team (CIT). The
CIT is ajoint agency tactical team
comprised of officers and staff from
the Cities of Delafield and Brookfield
and the Villages of Hartland, Chenequa
and Pewaukee. These communities provide
a total of three administrators, 17
tactical officers, one trauma nurse
and seven negotiators. There are also
three professional psychologists assigned
to the team.
To become a team member,
officers must undergo a challenging
selection process including written
and physical agility tests, firearms
proficiency and oral board. Upon assignment
to the team, members then undergo
training within the team every month
and advanced training with specialists
from outside the team.

Patrol |
The
City of Delafield Lake Patrol began in
1972 with the purpose of "enforcing Wisconsin
Statutes and any rule or ordinances pursuant
thereto..." The lake patrol is run by
the City of Delafield Police Department
and originally began with part-time officers
working primarily weekends and holidays
during the summer months. The patrol covers
Lake Nagawicka, which is approximately
1000 acres and located in the center of
the city. The lake patrol provides service
to the residents and visitors to the City
of Delafield and is active in enforcing
boating safety laws. Upon request, the
lake patrol will provide free safety inspections
of water craft. The lake patrol also assists
with search and rescue operations when
needed. |
| Traffic
Monitoring |
|
The
City of Delafield, Villages of Hartland
and Chenequa all purchased a speed monitoring
trailer together. The agencies share
the use of this trailer in the spring,
summer and fall. The trailer is used
to remind drivers what the speed limit
is, and to show them just how fast they
are going utilizing radar and a digital
display on the trailer. If you feel there
is a place where extra
radar
enforcement is needed, contact our department
at 646-6240. |
| Bicycle
Patrol |

The bicycle patrol primarily
patrols the downtown area, the Lake
Country bike trail and all city parks.
The bike patrol is used to give the
officers more opportunity to make contacts
in the community and to be more visible
to the public. |
