CDFD started its Paramedic program in 2000 to serve the City of Delafield and give them the best care that they deserve. Shortly thereafter, we initiated an Intercept program. Paramedic intercepts happen when surrounding communities request our Paramedics to respond for a large range of emergencies to assist them in patient care. Some of the reasons we may be called are:
Trauma patients
Cardiac Chest Pain
Cardiac Arrest
Difficulty Breathing
Unresponsive Patients
High-Risk Pregnancy In Active Labor
Burn Patients
Haz Mat
Continuous Seizures
Pain Management
The City of Delafield Fire Department expanded their program further in May of 2006 with Merton and Sussex Fire Departments by providing Paramedic level services to these two communities under a joint services agreement. Seven days a week the City of Delafield has a Paramedic staffed vehicle staged in the Merton Fire Department awaiting medical emergencies. The person staged up in Merton is in addition to our current staffing level that serves the City of Delafield; therefore personnel are not taken away from serving Delafield’s citizens. This is a great opportunity for our City as this leads to the three fire departments working toward shared services. Sussex and Merton do pay for these services when we are requested. This is a great opportunity for these communities to bring the same high level of care to their residents. This also gives our paramedics the opportunity to use their skills and maintain their proficiency. As other departments in the area see the benefit of shared services, this may allow us to expand into a more regional or merged department, which in turn will give us long term cost savings.
