Elections Overview
The City Clerk is responsible for ensuring that the electoral process is fair, accurate and impartial. All City of Delafield residents vote in one polling place in the City, open from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Election Day.

Changes in Voting Laws
There have been many changes to WI voting laws, one of the biggest being votes now have to show their ID to be able to vote. Governor Walker signed the voter photo ID law on May 25, 2011, and the Government Accountability Board is implementing the law. Click here to view the FAQ's on this topic. Wards & Aldermanic Districts
Due to the 2010 Federal Census, Delafield's population changes therefore causing the voting ward and aldermanic districts to change. A postcard will be mailed to all voters prior to the April 2012 election.
Voter Registration

If you register to vote BY MAIL:
Download the Voter Registration Application, read the instructions, complete the form, and mail it to City Hall, 500 Genesee Street, Delafield, WI 53018. Please note, If you are submitting this registration form by mail, attach a copy of one of the following forms of identification:

A copy of a current and valid photo identification; preferably a Wisconsin Driver's License.

A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, pay check or government document that shows the name and address of the voter.
If you register to vote IN PERSON:
You may register in person at City Hall, 500 Genesee Street, Delafield, in the Clerk’s Office daily from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM, and until 5:00 PM the Friday before an Election. You must bring proof that you have lived at your present location for 28 days preceding the Election. (See list of acceptable identification below.)
If you register to vote AT THE POLLING PLACE ON ELECTION DAY
If you wish to register to vote at your polling place, you must first determine what district you are located in from the Voter Ward Map, and the location of that Polling Place. Once this is determined, you must bring proof that you have lived at your present location for 28 days preceding the Election. For purposes of voter registration, a form of identification constitutes acceptable proof of residence if it includes:

A current and complete name, including both the given and family name; and
-
A current and complete residential address, including a numbered street address, if any, and the name of a municipality.
Acceptable Identification
Forms of identification which constitute acceptable proof of residence, when they contain the information specified above, include the following:

A current and valid Wisconsin driver License / ID Card.
-
Any other official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or unit.
-
Any employee ID card with a photograph, but not a business card.
-
A real estate property tax bill or receipt for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election.

A residential lease (does not count as proof of residence if elector submits form by mail.
-
A picture ID or fee card from a university, college or technical college.
-
A gas, electric or telephone service bill for the period commencing not earlier than 90 days before the day registration is made.
-
A bank statement.
-
A paycheck.
Absentee Voting
In order to vote absentee, you must be a registered voter in the City of Delafield. If not registered, please print and complete the Voter Registration Application form. You must also now provide a copy of your Voter ID with your absentee ballot application.
If you are registered, please print and complete the Application for Absentee Ballot form and return it to the City of Delafield, 500 Genesee Street, Delafield, WI 53018. Please make a color copy or grayscale copy of your Voter ID (WI Driver's License) and include it with your application. Once the application and Voter ID is received, a ballot will then be sent to you no sooner than the third Monday prior to the election. Ballots must be retuned to City Hall by Election Day in order for the ballot to count.
Ballots for all elections are available the third Monday prior to the election.
When you receive the ballot, please follow these instructions:

In the presence of someone authorized to administer oaths in Wisconsin (such as the City Clerk or a Notary Public) or in the presence of one witness, the voter marks the ballot by connecting the arrows, using a black pen or #2 pencil. If you plan to vote for a write-in: Write the person's name in the 'write-in' area, and connect the arrow.

The folded ballot is placed in the affidavit envelope and sealed.

The voter completes and signed the affidavit envelope.

An individual authorized to administer oaths or one witness present, while the ballots were marked, completes the certificate printed on the affidavit envelope. (Witness need not be a resident of the municipality in which the voter claims residency.

The affidavit envelope is returned to the City Clerk, by mail or in person, so that it arrives on or before Election Day (in time for the Clerk to have it delivered to the polling place by 8:00 PM).
